One summer about six years ago, I went to my grandmas in the summer of 1997. My grandma lived in a little simple neighborhood, with little simple people, with little simple lives. Everything was normal until I met melonie...that is a summer that I will never ever forget. I was on my way to the quick mart to pick up a few small groceries for my grandma. While I was walking I seen a girl sitting on the side of the street with tear filled eyes. I was tempted to stop and make sure she was okay but something was telling me no to. Of course, I didn't listen to myself and stopped. She had her head buried in her hands and was weeping. I asked her if she was okay and she didn't reply. I didn't want to bother her much more so I slowly just walked away. As I was walking away, I heard her mumble “please help?” I immediately stopped, turned around, and asked how I could help. She was nervous, I could tell by her body language. She was tense and shaking. Her eyes were deep and dark; almost in a creepy way yet pretty. She asked me to get her home. I asked where she lived and she said she didn't know. I asked her, her parents names and she responded “they're dead.” I was shocked and didn't know how to reply except for the typical “I'm sorry.” She didn't know where she was, what her guardians names were, her own name. She knew nothing. This didn't make anything easy that's for sure! I invited her back home for dinner and she agreed to that. On our way back home she didn't speak much. All I learned about her were that her parents were both dead, and she remembered her name; it was Melonie.
We go back to the house and my grandma was asleep on the front porch in her rocking chair. I lightly tapped her shoulder and whispered to her. She woke up and realized I wasn't alone; she asked who was with me. I introduced Melonie to my grandma and said I invited her to dinner. My grandma didn't seem to have a problem with it either. We went inside and got settled in….(to be continued)
