The past couple days its been in like the 80’s! We have put our solar pool cover on our pool everyday so it will help the water warm up. The past three days after school, i’ve gotten to go swimming! The water is at about 78 degrees and feels great! Usually after i’m done swimming i will get my towel and go and lay out on the trampoline. The sun usually shines right on the trampoline so its the perfect spot to lay out! I am really loving this warm weather! The first day of summer is June 21st..i kinda have it memorized. If you couldn't tell, summer is my all time favorite time of the year! There is so much that you can do during the summer. You can go to the lake, beach, river, go swimming, get a tan, wear shorts, tank tops, sandals, and my favorite part..camping! We don’t go camping all that often but when we do its usually for a night or two. We’ve been to indian point, the damn site, and another place but i can’t remember the name of it. We camp in a big tent that we have that sleeps like ten people! we can fit like three queen air mattresses and still have a little room to walk in between them! Like i said, its big! We always have so much fun and have a great time! Summer is just the best and i really wish it would last all year long!
Just got done with biology testing, it was really boring. Last week I had to do geometry EOC testing and this week is the biology EOC testing. I am very tired of testing! I just can’t wait until school is out and summers here! I got a pool recently and it is all set up and ready to go…only problem is is that its too cold to swim in it yet. Its like killing me not being able to wear shorts and go swim! Summer is my all time favorite time of the year! I love the warm weather, wearing shorts, being tan, and all the activities that come with the season. My favorite place to go in the summer is to indian point at the lake. i cant remember if its beaver lake or lake tablerock. Either way, Its my favorite! its got a sand entry kinda like the beach and it's kind of in a cove. I went last year and loved it! My stepdad is familiar with the lakes around here so thats how we found it. I really can’t wait until like july and august! At the end of July i am supposed to be getting my braces off and am so excited! I’ve had them on for two years and almost 2 months. I am very ready to get them off! Also in August, I go to Florida for a week and we have a condo that is literally on the beach! like i look out the back door and all u see is beach! Its so gorgeous especially where we go, Destin, Florida. Then when we come back a couple days later i turn 16! I am so ready to drive! I’ve already told my mom that i AM going on my birthday to get my license! Then a couple days later i go back to school and am a junior! And ten days after my birthday is my sweet sixteen party! Im having it out at my aunts house cuz they have like five acres, an inground pool, and a huge house! I’m going to have a band come out and play, lots of food, a volleyball net to play volleyball, the pool to swim and my aunt has a volleyball net so we can play volleyball in the pool, and definitely LOTS of people! My aunt, uncle, Grandma, and grandpa are all going to come down from Pennsylvania just for my party! I guess you could say i'm pretty loved; haha! the only thing that stinks is that my uncle Chuck can't make it to my party, he'll be in the philippines for work, i was kinda upset about that because hes pretty funny! But this is just going to be the best summer yet! Im even looking forward to tailgating next year! This next school year is just going to be awesome! I'll be able to drive so i won't have to ride the boring bus anymore, and have no more braces! Woo Hoo!
About a month ago, I took a trip with a club i'm in called, 4-h. I went with people of all ages from around the state of arkansas that are all in 4-h. I made some new friends, lauren, and danicka.
I had to get up at 2:30 in the morning and leave my house by 3. I had to be down in Little Rock by 7 cuz the charter bus i would be riding was leaving at 7 that morning. We figured it would take us about 4 hours to get down there but it only took us about 3 hours and 15 minutes. We arrived at the university where we would be boarding the charter bus at 6:15. On our way there my heart monitor batteries died. Luckily we still 45 minutes before i left to be able to go to the store and get new ones.
I loaded the bus and didnt know hardly anyone. We drove 2 hours down to Hope, AR. In Hope, we picked up more 4-h’ers. From there it took us about 7 hours to get to Baton Rouge, LA. We were going to be attending the LSU college veterinary days. Saturday morning we went to the college and spent almost all day. We spent about 8 hours at the college just walking around and seeing what all they had. I seen a fistulated cow and stuck my hand inside its side. A fistulated cow is a cow that has a hole in its side that goes right to its stomach. It makes a certain type of something that other cows may not produce. They are then able to just reach inside and get the processed food and feed it to the other cow. And yes, this cow is alive the entire time, and no, it doesn't hurt the cow. I also saw lots of animals hearts, lungs, and other organs. I saw all sorts of small animals, and a baby cow! I got to watch a horse on a treadmill and was explained why they use the treadmills for the horses. I saw some waildlife like a hawk, owl, tiger, and vulcher. All these animals were alive too! i had so much fun! I hope they do it again next year so i can go again!
A long time ago, when I was about five, my dad used to work nights. My mom was a stay at home mom with two two babies, and a young child. That young child was me. My dad worked at the Wal-Mart D.C...Since my mom wasn't working, money was always tight. I was little and didn't really know much about the budget but i knew we weren't rich by any means.
My dad would get off work at about five in the morning and get home around six. He would always come home, take off his shoes, and jacket, turn on the t.v., get a small pillow off the couch, and fall asleep on the living room floor. I would wake up and go out to the living room. I would sit by my dad and kinda move around to make little noises hoping he would wake up. When he did, he would tell me good morning and i would say it back. Then on occasion, we would get up and get our shoes and jackets on and leave. Their used to be a little donut shop by our house about five minutes away. He would take me and we would get donuts for breakfast. I still remember sitting in the car and looking at the clock and it saying 7:01. I looked outside and the sun was starting to come up but it was cloudy. There was lightning up in the clouds and i got kind of scared. I didn't show it though. We were going through little back roads in older neighborhoods to get to the donut shop. I was excited but nervous at the same time. I was nervous because of the it being cloudy and seeing the lightning. I used to be very scared of thunder and lightning and storms. I would also get kind of scared when it would be cloudy out and there would be strong wind. But i've always tried to hide my fear. I always loved going to the donut shop early in the morning with my daddy. It was a nice to have some daddy daughter bonding time.
One summer about six years ago, I went to my grandmas in the summer of 1997. My grandma lived in a little simple neighborhood, with little simple people, with little simple lives. Everything was normal until I met melonie...that is a summer that I will never ever forget. I was on my way to the quick mart to pick up a few small groceries for my grandma. While I was walking I seen a girl sitting on the side of the street with tear filled eyes. I was tempted to stop and make sure she was okay but something was telling me no to. Of course, I didn't listen to myself and stopped. She had her head buried in her hands and was weeping. I asked her if she was okay and she didn't reply. I didn't want to bother her much more so I slowly just walked away. As I was walking away, I heard her mumble “please help?” I immediately stopped, turned around, and asked how I could help. She was nervous, I could tell by her body language. She was tense and shaking. Her eyes were deep and dark; almost in a creepy way yet pretty. She asked me to get her home. I asked where she lived and she said she didn't know. I asked her, her parents names and she responded “they're dead.” I was shocked and didn't know how to reply except for the typical “I'm sorry.” She didn't know where she was, what her guardians names were, her own name. She knew nothing. This didn't make anything easy that's for sure! I invited her back home for dinner and she agreed to that. On our way back home she didn't speak much. All I learned about her were that her parents were both dead, and she remembered her name; it was Melonie.
We go back to the house and my grandma was asleep on the front porch in her rocking chair. I lightly tapped her shoulder and whispered to her. She woke up and realized I wasn't alone; she asked who was with me. I introduced Melonie to my grandma and said I invited her to dinner. My grandma didn't seem to have a problem with it either. We went inside and got settled in….(to be continued)
I am doing a review over the book "Girl, Stolen." Over Christmas break, a girl by the name Cheyenne, got pneumonia. She was with her step mom that morning that she was accidentally kidnapped. Her step mom ran into the pharmacy and left her i the car. That day Cheyenne didn't have her seeing eye dog but only her walking cane. Her step mom insisted she don't take her guide dog. While asleep in the car she heard the door open. She listened and after a few minutes realized that it wasn't her step mom. She started to panic and the guy who stolen the car realized he had kidnapped her. He didn't see her when he got into the car and therefore accidentally kidnapped her. He wasn't looking into harming her but she didn't know that. She was blind. He used that against her and took the cigarette lighter and acted as if it was a gun up to her head. Of course she believed it was an actual gun and decided to listen to everything he said. When they get back to his house she is taken inside. Kept in the kidnappers bedroom for about two days before escaping. She escapes in the middle of then night and makes her way up a hillside and to the highway. It doesn't stop there though. Its another struggle from there...
About eleven o’clock and the orchestra is playing one of their hit songs. Men and women drinking and dancing and laughing. Everyone seems to be having a great time. They think about their future and how great their new lives will be...but only if they knew what was about to happen.
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a large ship holding about 2500 passengers starts to sink. Its dead in the night, about 2:30 a.m. The loud sirens start going off, and lights flash everywhere making it look like a slow motion video. Women are gathering their children and men are called to the upper deck. Families being separated, people crying, everyone running trying to get to the lifeboats. Women and children get to go onto the lifeboats first. The men are left to only hope theres enough lifeboats to save themselves. Within seconds each one of the filled lifeboats are dropped down to the rough ocean waves. They just drop, one after another. Children screaming feeling the rush of the cold salty breeze go through their hair and sting their face as the lifeboats are launched into the ocean. After the lifeboats are filled and almost all passengers are off board the captain gives one last goodbye. He pulls the rope that sounds the horn and the passengers wave a goodbye. The ship creeks and lights flash from sparks flying in the dark night. Water rushing into the cabins one by one until meeting the captain's office. He stands at the wheel without fright as the cold water rushes against his legs and rising up to his chest, then up to his chin, then submerging him completely under water. The force of the ocean dragging the ship down and the captain going along. He never let go of the wheel and never will.
The mothers on the lifeboats weep as they lose sight of the ship. The children asking where their daddies are and the mothers having no way of responding. Thoughts running through their mind making it where they can’t think straight. Cold winds leaving brush burn on their cheeks. Never knowing if they will ever make it back home...
December 27th i went to the pediatric cardiologists. There i got an Echocardiogram done. An Echocardiogram is like an ultrasound that they do on your heart, chest, and upper stomach. The Echocardiogram lasted about thirty minutes. After they were done with that another doctor came in and gave me my heart monitor. He showed me where to put the electrodes on and how to turn it all on. There were two wires that connected to the electrodes that then plugged into the little monitor. Since then I have to wear it for at least thirty days. If the doctors don’t get enough information in the thirty days then, i will have to wear it for another thirty days. The glue stuff that is on the electrodes can irritate my skin and so I have to put cream on the spots so it relieves the sting after taking the electrodes off. If i don’t put anything on after taking the electrodes off then little sores appear and they really hurt. I haven’t had any sores except for one that started to appear but I was able to put cream on it so it didn’t get bigger. About a week and a half after having my heart monitor, my heart acted up. I pushed the record button and it recorded my heart. Later that day while i was at home, my monitor started making a crackling noise. I looked down at the monitor and there were black bars going across the screen. It stopped then beeped and reset itself. I lost the recording and didn’t get to send it to the doctors. A week later,my heart acted up but the same thing happened and I lost the recording again, except for this time the monitor just wouldn't turn on. I haven’t had anything to send to the doctors so most likely I will have to wear the monitor for another month. I really dont want to but i dont really have much of a choice.
I am writing this letter to you about the concerns and opinions of the removal of the vending machines. Many of the students, including myself, disagree with the new policy of healthy food in the vending machine. The new healthy policy is a good change but isn't exactly suitable for everyone. Some student have health issues, some are picky eaters, and some just don’t really care. This is concerning me because of the students that skip after school snacks now since the new health policy was introduced.
The new health policy is a good change for those who concern about others health and/or their own health. They enjoy the new healthy choices because that is how they prefer to eat. Healthy. They know they can go to the vending machines and not have to worry about not being able to find a snack to eat because none of the options are healthy. All in all, the policy was a good change for some. It is helping with the kids who don’t get healthy snacks or healthy food at home. They can at least have a small healthy nutritious snack at school. All though its a healthy snack, it won’t improve their health very much. Another issue is if the students don’t have money to buy snacks from the vending machines. Therefore, they won’t be getting that nutritious snack to help boost their health. Instead they could wait like an hour or so, and go home and eat a cookie or chips; unhealthy food.
The vending machine change isn't going to have much of an effect but more of a downfall for the income that the school may use from the money earned from the vending machines. If you take out the sugary sweets and replace it with healthy food, less people are going to purchase snacks from the vending machines. They won’t be pleased with the new options and will buy snacks elsewhere. With less students buying food, that means that less income is coming in, the food could go bad, and just have to go down the drain, and all the money used to purchase the food, to put into the vending machine, would all go to waste. But if you keep the sugary sweets then you will definitely have more students buying the snacks. This means the food won't go bad, you should keep a steady income, and there shouldn't be any waste of money. The students will be much happier too and that is always a good thing for everyone!
I would be very appreciative if you take this letter and possibly act upon it. I know a lot of the students would be pleased with the change back to the original vending machine choices. It may not be healthy snacks, but the students would definitely be happy! Well at least I know I would be happy!
Over my Christmas break, I did a lot of things. The first five days I was at my dads house, and we went up to my grandparents house. While i was there I made two new canvas paintings. I helped make our Christmas dinner; which was huge! We had turkey, duck, goose, casseroles, rolls, pies, cake, brownies, and lots of cookies! We spent all day cooking trying to prepare all the food. On Christmas day I woke up, opened all my gifts, and ate muffins and had a sausage breakfast casserole. I went back to my moms later that day, and went to my other grandmas house for another Christmas dinner. After dinner, we exchanged our gifts with each other. I got a twenty dollar Victoria's Secret gift card and makeup. After we left, I finally got to go back home! I was surprised with a new seven week old brindled great dane puppy name Kya. She is so cute! All of us got to open the rest of our gifts from my grandma, family, friends, and "santa." I got a lot for Christmas! On new years eve I babysat eight kids. My friends Taylour and Nicole came over to help me, and then stay the night. We played kool-aid pong with the kids, hide-n-seek in the dark, ate lots of food, and celebrated the new year. At 12:00 we all went outside and 2014 on the sidewalk in germ-ex, then lit it on fire. It didn't work very well because there was a breeze that kept putting out the flame. That is how I spent my winter break!
